Things In Their Places

Organize it!

It might make a lot of sense in your mind, but getting it to come out how it feels in you is a big difference. Using a method of your own, or one of the many other writing organization concepts available might just be the single most important catalyst to get you from writer wanna be to published author.

I can't tell you just how mind opening it was for me to accept and start using one of these methods of organization. Once I studied this it was such an eye opening thunder strike from above I couldn't believe that i had never thought of it before my self.

Really, my biggest stumbling blocks were lack of organization, motivation/inspiration when I can write, and time to write. Knocking off one of the three has improved my odds or finishing my own novel by 33%. That's significant!

The method I chose is called the Snowflake Method. Randy put this together and if you google it, you'll find it real easy. He offers to sell his book and software, but he also gives you the whole method free right on his website. He also sends out other media, emails, e-zine and other stuff. All of which is nice, but it's mostly intended to market his product to you. Still that said, the service he has given to me is awesome. Thanks Randy!!!

I'll go into details on the process, later but I won't break out all the steps... That's really Randy's bag not mine. But here is the gist of it.

You write a tiny one sentence statement of the story. Which you re-write into a 4 sentence paragraph, which then grows to.... and so on. Then you write character sentence, then paragraph, then ... so on. you see how you are getting organized and how all the spaces are filling in.

Once you're done, you have every scene broken down and ready to write.

Have fun!

The Moment

The best moments to write are when you are wrapped in deep emotion and inspiration. I've found that I can embrace this best when I am developing characters. I'll start by revisiting my character profiles and launch from there. Also I like to listen to a song that I feel holds a similar energy that this character posesses.

It's a beautiful thing to create something. The way the ideas grow in your mind out of thoughts, they turn in to nearly real persons. If you leave them be for a while you start to miss them.

I suggest you find out what things you do that makes your imagination sing, and then reproduce that as best you can when you write.

Then write about the story and characters as much as you can. Don't let it just be in your head. If it's not written then you're just a thinker. Getting it out onto the computer screen or page, reguardless to your elequance or penmanship is what this is all about. Writers write. There are no exceptions.

Once you've gotten it all out, great. Next you need to orgonize it... really. Creativity is no excuse for a messy mind... or room for that matter. Clean it up.

I'll talk about what method I'm using next time.

Getting Started.

In the beginning there was light... and in order for there to be more a whole lot of hard work had to happen. These worlds just don't build themselves!

I am what most writers start as. I have wanted to write a published work, (preferably a novel) ever since I was a child in grade school. There have been hundreds of false starts. Now I've grown a bit and I feel it is long past time to make it happen. So I believe I'm beginning a journey that will take me to my goal and beyond into a new career.... many, many years later I'm sure. But I won't quit even if I have to be self published! Hoorah!

My posts will be at random as is my creative brain. I will post things as they occur to me. Mostly so I don't forget, but also so I can share, because I believe in sharing I create accountability. If someone out there, sees what I've said I'll do then I must do it. Help make me accountable to achieve this goal. Follow my words and feel free to spur me on when I slack. Maybe you'll even find some interest in what I have to write.

I'll be posting images from time to time when I'm trying to tie in a visual element, but most of my posts will be in writing.
